Jude Law Returns As Dr. John Watson

by admin ~ April 10th, 2013

Naming the best Watson on film is a spirited and intense debate, but one thing remains clear: Jude Law’s stint as the iconic Dr. Watson in 2009 was a marked change from the typical bumbling sidekick that normally appears, and was a change for the better. Devoted fans have noted that Law’s portrayal is far closer to the original canon. The popularity of the franchise demonstrates that the foolish old doctor may be on the way out, while the young, clever, handsome Continue reading »

Matt Smith: The Next Doctor and Heir to a Legacy

by admin ~ January 10th, 2012

Doctor Who, the highly imaginative, often strange and always fun science fiction franchise, began life from 1963 to 1996 and, after a brief lull, enjoyed a revival in 2005 and has been going strong ever since. The Doctor, the titular protagonist, has been played by eleven different actors over the course of the show’s history, each actor bringing a new face and a new attitude to the familiar role.

When news came down the pipe that Matt Smith would be taking on the role of the legendary, time traveling, alien genius, the internet was aghast. People rushed to their computers to find out just who this man was and debates raged across the internet about his qualifications and what he would bring to the revered role.

As the youngest actor to ever portray the enigmatic mastermind known simply as “The Doctor,” Smith had a lot to live up to. Old pros had come and gone with fans firmly planted in their various “favorite Doctor” camps and none of them wanted to see some young hotshot take what they loved about the show and turn it into something radical.

Luckily for everyone, Matt entered the role with both professionalism and practiced humility. He didn’t seek to assimilate the franchise and make it his own but instead became absorbed in the legacy of the greats, evolving the character naturally to fit his needs as an actor. Today, fans all over the world are cheering, mobbing the message boards on their wi-fi computers and firing up their direct tv ipad services; all for Matt Smith who has arguably become one of the best Doctors in the franchise.

The Brothers Gallagher: Liam Takes Noel to Court

by admin ~ December 14th, 2011

On August 18, 2011, Liam Gallagher sued his brother Noel Gallagher for libel as a result of remarks Noel made following the break up of their band, Oasis. While Oasis announced that they had to cancel their 2009 headlining gig at the V Festival due to Liam being stricken with laryngitis, Noel had recently stated that the cancellation was in fact due to Liam being too hungover to perform. Liam was offended and felt that Noel’s statements questioned his professionalism as a musician.

Liam also claimed in his lawsuit that Noel wrongly stated that the fight that led to the breakup of Oasis resulted from Liam’s desire to promote his clothing company, Pretty Green. Again, Liam claims this is erroneous as such a discussion never occurred between the two brothers. Noel later stated that he only talked to Liam onstage during the last few months the band was together.

Days later, reports circled that the brothers’ mother, Peggy, was very upset by the lawsuit. Liam then told the press that all he wanted was for Noel to apologize and that he was sad that he had to resort to the legal system to get the apology that he deserved. Liam was reported to have felt anger and sadness that their relationship had deteriorated to the point where he had to sue to get an apology from his brother.

Noel stated during an online chat with fans on August 22, 2001, that Liam had indeed been diagnosed with laryngitis by a doctor prior to the band’s cancellation of the gig in question. However, he also stated that he felt disappointed that Liam was offended by his comments in the first place.

Two days later, on August 24, 2011, it was reported that Liam, satisfied with the apology, had dropped the lawsuit.

Top Five Rock Musicians Knighted by the Queen

by admin ~ August 26th, 2011

Virtues of a modern knighthood are nowhere near the medieval idealized versions of gallant knights in shining armor triumphing over some monstrous force rescuing damsels in distress. Modern knighthoods awarded by Queen Elizabeth II are just meritorious titles granted without responsibility in recognition of some fantastic achievement or service performed.

Rock musicians often receive knighthoods for services in the musical performing arts and to charity. Knighted men use the title “Sir’ and knighted women use the title “Dame’. Below is a list of the top five knighted rock musicians:

Sir Cliff Richard was the very first rocker to earn a Continue reading »
