There was a strong feeling among the judges that Sir Tim Berners-Lee should be celebrated for the gift that he has given to global society - the World Wide Web. His invention is nothing less than a social revolution and the judges acknowledged this, as well as his great modesty and inner strength for not seeking commercial reward for his creation. His gift has not only enriched us culturally but will also allow future generations to be creative in ways not previously possible.
