Reforms to the honours system will make it easier to reward volunteers and "unsung heroes", Gordon Brown has said.
The prime minister, who has written a book, Britain's Everyday Heroes, said he wanted to recognise "the great work that people do" in the community.

Last week it published plans for its own overhaul of lesson content, while revised citizenship lessons will focus on cultural diversity in the UK.
Jim Knight, the schools minister, said: "The new elements in citizenship classes will help children learn about identity and Britishness. Looking at our shared British identity through the lens of history will strengthen links between citizenship and history."
